About Modern Art Gallery Delhi:

Like various other institute of that era, Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime-Minister of India, conceived National gallery of modern art. This institute cum art gallery was established in the year 1954 to promote and conserve the modern art movement. By modern art it meant sculpture and paintings belonging to an era after 1857. It included various 19th and 20th century art movement such as realism, surrealism, objectivism etc. Among others it has a superb collection of paintings dating from 1857 to the present day. The collection of the National Gallery of Modern Art essentially comprises paintings, sculptures, graphics and photographs mainly by Indian and, to some extent, international modern artists. The Modern Art Gallery houses a large collection of approximately 4000 pieces of art including paintings, graphics, and sculptures made by different renowned as well as amateur artists. The timeline is no issue as it ranges from 1850s to the present time. Modern Art Gallery strictly adheres to certain parameters while acquiring new collections from up coming artists to ensure an all-round quality it associates itself with.The verdant green garden of the Jaipur house is a plethora of sculptures from great contemporary artists. The prime focus of the garden is the ‘Triumph of Labor’ created by D.P Roy Choudhary. The gallery has rich creative works by Abanidranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Gaganendranath Tagore, Amrita Shergil, Raja Ravi Verma and Jamini Roy.
